I came here after deciding to get highlights for the first time in a very very very long time (about 10 years). Deana was awesome and made the experience very easy! She looked at my hair, determined what colors would look best with my skin tone, but still had me look through a book and decide for myself what color I wanted. She explained how the bleaching process works and how the highlights may look dark now, but it will get lighter, etc. She’s very knowledgeable, passionate about her work and easy to talk to. This salon is a great spot in Annandale!

I know this is my second review for this salon, but seriously, I still cannot get over how amazing Paul is with haircolor! The first time I went to see him, he rescued my hair…worked like magic and I kept checking out my haircolor in the rearview mirror all the way home! (I know, bad me, I feel guilty for confessing that). I couldn’t come back for a while because I had to move to New Mexico for an internship…but I made sure to make an appointment with him again for when I return to DC for my graduation…and when I saw him, he did my hair even BETTER than the first time around!! I think it’s because I wanted to be a bit more daring and add more color…he did it SO GOOD that I constantly got compliments, even from my own two fathers! They never said anything about my hair except “aren’t you going to fix it? Do you need a haircut?”…this time they were like “wow, your hair looks great!” and I was blown away when both of them said it the same day! I referred people to see Paul…one of my best friends went to see him, and she is very picky with her hair. Not trying to be funny or anything, but really, her esteem sort of depends on how her hair looks…that is how picky she is. She’s had a string of bad experiences with different hair stylists…she was hesitant to try Paul, especially on her birthday. She had him do her haircut and highlights…and she left looking and feeling like a starlet! Since then, she’s raved about Paul’s magic with hair and wishes she lived closer (she lives on the opposite coast).

Granted, he is a busy man…it is evident that his work is in high demand with all the clients that comes by…and even though his store has undergone a makeover the last time I went, it still could use some more improvements (I think he should own a beautiful salon like what I’ve seen in Los Angeles!) What I like about him is he has his family there too…his wife comes by with their daughter, who is ADORABLE, and his mom works there with him…she is so funny around him. It feels very warm and family-like. If only we could have 5 more Pauls and salons in different locations!! 🙂

Color is definitely his speciality…he is a genius.

After having my hair mangled by a stylist at another salon a friend of mine recommended I go to Erica at Paul Michael’s. I live in VA but go to a lot of charity events in DC. I have a highend stylist in DC who does blowouts for me but does not cut my hair.

Erica gave me a bob that was so perfect that my highend stylist in DC complimented her on it! He asked me who cut my hair and told me she had done a perfect job! It is rare when I highend stylist in DC compliments a stylist in the suburbs but he was right and I’ve gone back to her twice now and have had excellent results.

While the salon itself is in a little strip mall, it really delivers results. Go see Erica and you will be pleased with the results as well.

Wow, a lot of the reviews are all over the place. I usually don’t post reviews as I just use Yelp to have all of you lovely people tell me what’s good, but after my experience at Paul Michael’s, I had to! I’m not sure if there’s been a change in staffing or what, but I had an amazing experience there. I invest a lot of time and care into my hair, so after my stylist left to go back to the west coast a few years ago, I’ve been on a search. I’ve tried about 6 salons (no joke) and while a couple were okay, they never did what I actually wanted them to do. Finally, a friend of mine mentioned this particular place. I drive by it often to visit my folks, but never noticed it there. I called, made an appointment with Deana, and was ready for lucky number 7. I was thrilled! I asked her for an all over color and a cut to compliment my face (round, bleh) and she did an amazing job. She took the time to really talk to me about the color I wanted. I went for a very dark brown/black. It’s really exactly what I wanted. The color hasn’t washed out (which is always the case for me). As for the cut, she trimmed up my layers, and shaped my face really well. I have a ton of hair, so to have it feel lighter without looking like a weird mullet is difficult. It’s perfect. I’m happy that I’ll never have to go to anyone else ever again, yay! I’ve been recommending this place to all my friends, and to whoever is reading this.

I love going here. I am 30 and want a good cut and highlights for a young person. I love Erika or Deanna. They are both great and very friendly and fun. They are usually available too when I have a last minute cut/color to get in. I dont understand the negative reviews. usually people only complain on this website anyway so sometimes you dont get to always see the positive side of things. Def recommend this salon to friends and family!

I have lived in Virginia for 12+ years and this is the first time I was VERY pleased when I walked out. Everyone loves the cut (done by Paul) on me and the color Paul was so sweet and considerate and did a great job! The color looks so natural and goes well with my skin tone.

Paul even had to fix what was done by another stylist form another salon and it still turned out cute!

I finally found a place I can go and not worry about what they are going to do to me! I would say it is well worth the $$$.

Best hairstylist in all of D.C area I travel from Maryland to Virginia just to have my hair done by Paul. Paul gives me the best highlights and the best haircuts , whatever he does ,the condition of my hair always feels great,Paul is amazingly talented, and I love the down to earth feel.
